All players of FFHL are to read the rules of play. Players new to the league should take note of rules on fighting, puck in/near crease & contact of stick with puck above waist which may not be common to other leagues you've played in. Regardless, if you step on the ice, you agree to follow the rules :)

RULES OF PLAY - FISHER FINANCIAL HOCKEY LEAGUE

FFHL follows the rules of the Canadian Amateur Recreational Hockey Association (CARHA)(see hockey@carha.hockey.ca) with the following noted exceptions:

FIghting, intent to injure or deliberate injury WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!! This includes and is not limited to kicking, head-butting, butt-ending and spearing. Violation of this rule brings a match penalty, game misconduct and review by FFHL Board of Governors with possibility of suspension or expulsion with NO REFUND of money.

Boarding and body contact - may result in minor (including double minor) or major penalty at discretion of the referee.

Pucks in or near the crease - Goaltenders are doing us a favour by being there so let’s show some respect. When a puck is covered by the goaltender, it is DEAD! If a puck is on a goaltenders pad, the play is DEAD! If a puck hits the goaltender in the mask, the play is DEAD (referee should whistle the play down)!! Do not hack, slash or take runs at the goaltenders. Referees will call penalties if it is deemed to be too aggressive.

Slap shots are defined as backswing ABOVE THE KNEE and are not permitted. A minor penalty will be assessed for this infraction.

High stick contacting the puck ABOVE THE WAIST will result in a minor penalty. Yes, some leagues halt play when stick above shoulder makes contact with puck however our Board of Governors want to keep sticks well below head level.

Game Ejection / Minor and Major Penalties. Any player assessed THREE PENALTIES in one game shall be ejected for the remainder of that game and a teammate will serve the third penalty. In FFHL, any combination of penalties resulting in 6 or more minutes will also result in ejection from that game and suspended from the next scheduled game. When that same player is ejected from a second game for same reason (3 penalties or 6+ minutes in penalties), a 3-game suspension will be assessed. A third infraction of game ejection for the same player will result in expulsion from the FFHL with NO REFUND of fees. A game misconduct is a major penalty with automatic ejection (more than 6 minutes) and review by FFHL Board of Governors.

Game Ejection / Match Penalties. A match penalty will result in immediate ejection from that game and possible review by FFHL Board of Governors.

Spares.  When a team has fewer than TEN skaters for a regular season game, the Team Captains may call in spares (up to max of ten skaters) with a similar skill level player from another team when possible. Spares are not permitted during playoffs with exception of goaltenders.

Trades - In order to maintain balance within our 4-team league, the team captains will consider trading players between teams. Trades are reviewed and approved by the Board of Governors.
