So, that was an absolute shafting, the game gets moved, they have 3 ringers, including a goalie, which is completely unfair, and the attendant cut our ice time short because their net was broken...has to be a better way to solve this than PIM...

Personally,I find setting up a bracket with the chance to have a tie is prob not the best route. Why not run a best of three than have a clear winner? Now, Us (preds) lost on the plus / minus rule from the second game which was called short with 1/3 a period remianing. I know 5-6 mins means it could have helped or hurt us but i'm sure in the eyes of any hockey player there's alot that could have happen.

I really enjoyed the year but this has to be one of the shitties ways to end a season! I don't agree with the call and I think it's safe to say many of the teamates feel the same. If it ends like this I have a different feeling about the league setup

Well at least Ricky has a good argument and isn't whining.. if you're going to complain about 'ringers' that are already on the team and a substitute goaltender (i'll be the first to vouch that Derek is just as good as Justin) you're basically coming off as a sore loser sorry.

Best of 3 next year sounds like a great plan, maybe it's harder for Brian though because icetimes are $200+

Personally I think a curling format works great. But it's not like we didn't know in advance what the rules were coming into the playoffs..

Come on guys!!! No hockey player in the world is going to agree that PIM should decide a playoff tie before round robin playoff record...

And Fish with all the ice time we have with the 4-plex those aholes could of let us play the last 5 minutes... They always move and f-up ices times/ dressing rooms and we never complain... the first time in the year we need 5 MINUTES and they f-us!!! its ridiculous!!! WE HAD THE REFERRES DRESSING ROOMS LAST YEARS for our FINALS because of those idiots!!! There were 3 empty ices after this game!!!

Fish only way to fix this is a last game to decide winner in between preds and mings... If it doesn't happen there will be no real winner this year!!! and will have to put an asterix next to the winning team.

I'm not 100% sure who Justin is but I've had great games and terrible games and everywhere in between against all 3 teams. Last year the wings were having an excellent playoff run and the format then, saw us bounced out with one loss against the ice dogs, so the format not perfect was an improvement. As for ringers the Preds won last year with John and not their original goalie which they most certainly would not have done so lets asterix that year as well.

This league was supposed to be about fun and I even found myself soured this season putting more of a focus on winning. To be honest the core group who is about just having a good time would probably benefit from not keeping stats and just coming out and playing, the rest who don't want that style of hockey could play in a more serious league. There was a lot of stupid stuff going on this year and finally someone on our team got seriously hurt, seeing someone's head bounce off the ice and seeing the effects in the locker room after the game really put things into perspective for me.

I can't speak for anyone but myself but, I don't want to play with people who can't control themselves and put a scoreboard above someone's personal safety. The rules were clear about no contact and play being dead if the puck is in or on the goalie yet I kept getting run and slashed and for what? Nobody is getting paid, drafted, or is going to be on the cover of a magazine. We all have to get up and work the next day and most of us would like to do it without being sore. If you don't agree with this post then one of us should be rethinking where we play from now on and yes possibly its me.

Richard,

I am not going to argue with you except for the fact that Matt is the caliber of Adam/Yannick, but whatever. I probably should have been suspended but I wasn't. We had 5 to 6 chances last night that we would have scored on your regular goalie. Its not so bad if you have a ringer or 2 but it makes a difference when its a goalie, he's better than any goalie in this league(no offence, all goalies in this league are solid, but he's a league above), no doubt about it. Anyway, I am more pissed off that we had 5 minutes of ice time left and the rink attendant was a complete asshole. But 3 games would make sense.

Oh and Mike, you never whine either right?

I know that I am going to create a shit storm her by responding but here it is. I am surprised that the rink attendant actully blew it dead with 5 or 6 mins to go. But whats done is done. As a lot of you regulars know they usually treat us pretty well. We may have lost our luster over the winter with some of the shit that has been going on. I am not sure.
Trust me, I had thought of a 3 game series but look at the anymosity that was in games when you play them once every 3 weeks! Plus if a team took the first 2 what do I do with the 3rd ice time. How many guys would show up from the knocked out team? Its an additional 200 for the ice.
The main reason I used PIM's is because the league was getting far too aggressive for what I wanted to create. A lot of people have put time and effort into making this a fun league, and in one summer we have almost turned it into the Dieppe Industrial! I will not let that happen.
The GM's are going to get together soon and have a good meeting. We will have ALL the rules, playoff format and etc figured out before the start of the season. I have dealt with more crap in the last 2 months than I have in 5 years. When doing this is no longer any fun, its time to find someone else to do it. I would love going to the game and not having to worry about anything. But I want to play some fun hockey with good people. So this is where its at. I can do and control only so much. The rest of it falls into the players hands of what type of league they want it to be. The fun part has been lost somewhere along the line, and I intend to bring it back!

All of you should have express your concerns to Brian fisher at the beginning of the season and not at the end. We are all profesional ppl outside those games so keep on behaving. As for justin, hes our backup goalie when Hansen is absent. Fisher is putting this fking league for fun. Some of you are extremely good players but your characters on the ice is blemishing your skills. Next time try to modify that negative chit chat into goals. Just saying k

Fish and Kevin are right, we all make up the league and we are responsible for how it turns out. People should think about what type of hockey they want to play before they resign for another season and make sure this one is a right fit for them. If people get out of line and start to ruin the fun then they should be delt with siftly and sternly to ensure things don't get out of hand.

If you look at a player like Matt Sweatnam, highly skilled and competative yet always has the proper attitude and conducts himself very gentlemantly on the ice. He has scored a lot of goals on me but has never run me over when going hard to the net or wacked at me if I don't have the puck completely under control. He even says nice save when I'm lucky enough to stop him yet, anyone who knows him knows that guy wants to win but, not at the expense of a good time. We could all take a page out of his book and make it better for everyone. Once again everyone will not agree but that's why there are other leagues with other points of view for those people.

For the record we only got the email about the Quarter finals Tie BREAKER on the 11th of August one day after our first Quarter final game and after taking 10 PIMS to Ming’s 6. Please tell me all of you would be happy with that?
We lost that's fine, but the rule also states that you play with what you got and that you take the same calibre player for spares, our game Monday was not only cancelled because of compressor problems but because Ming didn't have enough players!!! It should have been a forfeit but we didn't complain, and if you guys don't remember we played without a goalie last year for one of our games and we only took goalies that played in the league for spares never hired guns!
Derek you say that you got hacked it should be covered your not the only one, you guys scored two goals that way against us and on the other the ref. was calling for high stick against your team and didn’t even know it was a penalty and a second later you guys scored, we can go on and on and blame it on all sorts of things but at the end it’s not going to change anything!
You can all bitch as much as you want cause that's all that it's been this year, we are trying to improve the league and in my opinion some guys take it too seriously we didn’t have this problem last year but we also didn’t have the calibre either so in your opinions what’s the problem?

Everybody wants to win and have fun at the same time, but for some reason’s the team’s that where winning last year where losing this year and we started getting a lot of whining from them for trades. We even had people whining before we even stepped on the ice by just looking at our rosters, I was even asked by one of the leagues best players to trade for him at the start of the year and told him that would never happened cause then we would be too good.

We all hate to lose, it sucks but in the end some one has to (I hate that’s its us) especially this way! At the same time last year we had lots of whiners that didn’t like the playoff format so we decided to go this way and yet we still get whiners (me included)!

So to end my rant, we will be meeting before the start of the winter league and try to figure out ways that we can improve but we can only TRY nothing is perfect where not in the NHL and we only have so many game times to play with.

Go nuts!!!!

Maybe my comments aren't as clear on a forum post as they would be in a face to face conversation. I realize I'm not the only goalie who took abuse, I am trying to get equality / safety for all goalies and all skaters. I came out and played for you guys last year when you were short so I realized your situation and tried to help, we have struggled with attendance problems all year. I'm calling for cooler heads and increased fun and saying we're all responsible for how things have turned out. I am not bitching, I'm just pointing out what the league was suppposed to be about and what it actually became and saying lets all step back and rethink it.

Thanks for the feedback in this thread. We (Fish & GMs) hope your input will help improve the next version (winter session) of this league. Fish has been very very clear that the prime reason for this league to exist is for fun AND competitive hockey. Through this summer at times we've had both & at times neither. The Commish & GMs have tried to listen to the complaints & compliments in order to adjust on the fly. Fish had to work with the rink to re-jig game times & it is indeed too bad the quarter-final game was cut short for any reason, e.g. broken net, broken sprinkler head, broken arm, etc.. Thanks to Fish for his extraordinary efforts this summer.

All GMs had to revisit on-ice rules & try to manage players' expectations about how they were applied. Refs did a fine job all summer in keeping up with the fast pace & occasional bellyaching from players. Some rules are a bit different from those we're used to but were introduced for improved safety (no slappers, high stick on puck, running/hacking goalie, stoppage in play when goalie gets puck in head, etc.). I've been playing this game since Boston won the Stanley Cup - the last time, not this year! - and I've never ever seen a ref change a call so why waste your breath & our time by arguing about it?

Trades - Most guys don't want to be moved but we were all told it could & would happen if needed to even up teams. This season may be memorable for the fact that the Flames were often involved in the trade cycle for the first time. The standings are proof that the trades had their desired effect however the outcome of any game still (even after the trade deadline) relies very much on who shows up at the rink... which leads me to my last point.

Ringers - Every team had at least one highly skilled player who could be termed a "game changer". This season the overall speed and defensive play were higher than last year (my opinion, feel free to disagree). GMs were tasked to manage their own team & work with each other (i.e. look at their lineups & make sacrifices for the good of the league's balance) to make every team have a chance to win in the PAHL. The regular season & playoff standings especially show this was the case. We had far less use of walk-ons (ringers) this season which should have lessened protests from opposing teams (I guess we managed to find new stuff to gripe about!). The goalie will always be a position where we may have to bring in a backup to keep up with the game schedule. If other skaters are missing, we agreed that there would be no substitutes in the playoffs so this should have not been an issue for any GM/team.

Best of luck to the Wings tonight. And to the Flames, I hope you're all ready for Tuesday's deja vu!
