Hey guys, I know a bunch of you have emailed me already but I am looking to see if there is more interest in a winter league similar to this. I was approached by a few guys so I am looking into it. I am trying to get the ice between Monday and Thursdays no later than 1015 PM. I am going to set it up for 58 games from Sept to April. I will have refs, insurance and timekeepers as well as stats etc. if you are interested send me a line or if you know anyone who is. I am going to go with 60 skaters and thats IT. I have just over 30 now.
IF it works out cost would be 650.00 for 58 games, Playoffs and all insurance, refs and timekeepers.

Let me know what you guys think

Hi Brian Sounds good, but some changes should be made...i.e slap shots allowed, etc

What changes do you think should be made. Elaborate on the etc and I will bring it up with the captains for the winter session. I am not adverse to change as long as there is a purpose and the guys are happy with it.

Changes should include: Slapshots allowed, stop clock, at least 2 ref's(game speed is picking up), Better Ice times compare to the Dieppe Ind. League, 1 fight = 25$ + 2 games suspension; 2nd fight = 50$+ 4 games suspension and 3rd fight= bye bye.

anyway..just my 2 cents!!!

Ice time is not easy to get. I have no idea what time Dieppe Industrial plays at. But I hae been renting ice for over 4 years now over 100 ice times per year and I still cant get great ice.
As for fighting I will not let that happen PERIOD. Most guys want to come out and play and have fun but for it to still be competitive. Fights are for when you are getting paid to play IMO.
I will look at the two ref system as I have heard that from some guys.
The stopped clock system could work but I think that we get more "hockey" from playing the straight 60 minutes. I could be wrong on that.
I will bring some of those to the captains meetings the next time we meet to see if they want to implement them into the winter session.
As for the ice times I wish it was as simple as asking for 7 PM start times. My life would be a hell of a lot easier.
Thanks for the input Kevin.

I think this group is about just having some fun and getting a good skate in and still being on good terms when the game is over. If you make changes then we should just enter teams into the Dieppe league and forget what we're doing. Extra refs suggest things get chippy, slap shots increase the risk of injuries to skaters and fighting is just a no for this group. There is a wide range of skill level and age, you can't have a 25 year old take a slap shot with a 50+ year old guy in front of the net with marginal gear on or drop the gloves with him. There are leagues out there for all that kind of stuff where people are like minded and grouped accordingly by age, skill and willing to take the risks associated with a higher level of competition. This group has always been about fun and I don't want that to change, we all have to go to work the next day and an injury could affect someone's ability to earn a living. What we've been doing for the last few years lets us have our cake and eat it too, as you can tell by Brian's six pack.

I am glad p eople are taking notice of my fantastic physique. I will have you know it doesn't come cheap. And just so everyone knows I am proud of my quadruple 6 pack thank u very much.
Very good points though Derek. We did start this to be fun and I want to keep it that way. It gives people an opportunity to play some decent hockey and not have to go home with bruises or having to put up with people trying to hurt them. I take great pride in this league and from where it started. I do not want to jeoparidise what we have going.
I did this so players like myself who did not play hockey (I know u are all shocked!) Could play some hockey and have fun and to learn the ropes along the way. But it gave players of ALL skill levels something to look forward to. I think we have accomplished that. There is no way of making everyone happy but from the responses I was getting before the seaspn and now it is very positive.

I think I was missunderstood. I dont want fights either. All I'm saying is if you fight...consequences will be attached to it.

Your right I did misunderstand Kevin. But there are consequences. Its in the rules. If you fight you are done! Plain and simple. No refund of money and I will not have them play in any hockey that I run.
It may be a stiff penalty but it's the way I want this run. It goes the same for intent to injure as well. If the ref tells me that someone INTENTIONALLY went out to hurt someone. DONE!

What if a full out bench brawl broke out? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB5mhkSTtJY (Timekeeper could play Metallica in the background..)

How would you sort out the consequences?

We'd be down to two teams. It would be intersting. Would save me a bunch in ice costs.
